QUANTIFYING ROAD-TRAFFIC CONTRIBUTIONS TO AIR POLLUTION IN AN URBAN AGGLOMERATION

Анотація
This study develops and applies an integrated framework to quantify road-traffic contributions to air pollution in an urban agglomeration by combining a high-resolution road-network emission inventory (including exhaust and non-exhaust sources), quality-assured monitoring data, dispersion modelling, and independent attribution methods. The results show that traffic generates pronounced near-road increments and hotspot patterns for NO2 and CO that align with commuting dynamics and intensify under stagnation meteorology. For particulate matter, inclusion of brake and tyre wear and road-dust resuspension is essential to reproduce observed PM10 hotspots and to avoid systematic underestimation of the traffic-attributable burden. Scenario implications indicate that exhaust-focused measures can deliver strong NO2 benefits, whereas meaningful PM reduction requires complementary non-exhaust controls and targeted interventions on high-exposure corridors.
