This article examines the integration of artificial intelligence into military command and control from a historical perspective, tracing the evolution from staff-centered decision processes to computational and networked C2 systems. It argues that AI primarily increases decision tempo and analytical throughput through data fusion, forecasting, and option support, but its effectiveness is constrained by contested data, model brittleness, and escalation risks. The study concludes that doctrinal governance, assurance, and resilient human-in-the-loop integration are decisive conditions for credible military use of AI.
