About 25% of the earth's soils contain excess salts (up to a few per cent). Soil salinity causes great damage to agriculture. The most common in saline soils are soda (Na2CO3), Glauber's salt (Na2SO4), and table salt (NaCl). Accordingly, soda, sulfate and chloride salinity are distinguished. Since salinity is dominated by several salts in nature, they talk about complex salinity, for example, sulphate-chloride, chloride-sulphate, sulphate-soda, chloride-soda, etc.
